About the Event
UNICEF believes that young people’s voices are essential in shaping the decisions that affect their lives. Their unique perspectives, innovative ideas, and lived experiences provide invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing youth worldwide.
The UNICEF Evaluation Office has actively engaged young people through youth advisory groups (YAGs) in global evaluations, including the Evaluation of the Gender Policy and Gender Action Plans and the Evaluation of the Strategic Plan. Their contributions have helped make these evaluations more inclusive, responsive, and reflective of the diverse realities of young people.
The event will begin with Ms. Barsha Pradhan from UNICEF presenting how youth have been engaged in UNICEF’s global evaluations. They will also share a video featuring YAG members explaining why youth engagement in evaluations is crucial.
This will be a panel discussion with the panelists: Erica Mattellone, Senior Evaluation Specialist, Yiannis, YAG member of evaluation of Gender Policy and Gender Action Plan, Grace Akua, YAG member of evaluation of Strategic Plan, and Kyra Variyava, former intern at UNICEF evaluation office. The YAG members, Grace Akua and Yiannis will share their experiences of participating in the evaluation process and offer reflections on how future engagements can be strengthened. Similarly, Kyra will share her experiences and insights following her contributions. Erica will highlight UNICEF's commitment to youth engagement and the need to elevate young people's voice in evaluation
