Opening up evaluation: How applying Open Science principles can help enhance evaluation use

In your evaluation work, how often have you paused to think of the value your work could have for the broader evaluation community and society, beyond intended users for specific evaluations?

If you’re thinking about how to integrate and drive knowledge creation for sharing and use within the broader field of evaluation, this session is for you. This session will explore the idea of a more open approach to future evaluation work, underpinned by Open Science principles. The potential this kind of open approach has to enhance evaluation use, improve access, address inequality and increase sustainability will be explored. What value practicing a more open approach to evaluation can add and ideas about how to (slowly) start opening up your evaluation work will also be covered.

This session will:
1) Introduce participants to Open Science principles
2) Give participants a brief overview of how applying Open Science principles in their future evaluation work can help to open up the field of evaluation and enhance use
3) Discuss the value a more open approach to evaluation can add, both to the field as well as for society as a whole
4) Explore specific examples of how participants can begin to apply Open Science principles in their future work, including a discussion of the challenges and opportunities inherent in a more open approach
