About the Event
Session Description:
Community engagement (CE) stands as a potent catalyst for societal transformation within the realm of development projects. Recognising the pivotal role of actively involving local communities in fostering sustainable growth and impactful outcomes, there has been a significant paradigm shift in recent years. This transformation underscores the imperative for projects to authentically involve community voices, resonating with their unique needs, values, and aspirations to make a meaningful difference. Effective CE transcends mere participation; it fosters a sense of ownership, inclusivity, and harnesses local knowledge and resources to drive substantive, enduring change.
Itad, alongside other organisations in the development sector, is committed to enhancing its understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) within community engagement initiatives. Our proposed session seeks to contribute to a more equitable and sustainable aid sector by delving into new learning opportunities. Through collaborative exploration, participants will be equipped with insights and strategies to navigate challenges CE MEL related challenges effectively, ultimately empowering communities and driving transformational change through evidence-based decision-making.
Objectives:
Our session aims to deepen understanding of how evaluation can enhance stakeholders’ comprehension of processes driving transformational change in interventions that have a CE component or focus, and with integrating CE into MEL. By uniting commissioners, implementers, community representatives, and MEL practitioners, we seek to cultivate a shared understanding and effective practices in this domain. Our objective is to provide workshop participants with a platform to collectively cultivate knowledge and exchange experiences in implementing MEL frameworks within CE interventions.
Through a workshop format, we aim to stimulate reflection on the conceptual and methodological frameworks essential for achieving these objectives, ensuring relevance for both communities and organisations commissioning evaluations. Additionally, the session will explore intersections with issues related to social justice, empowerment, and gender equality, with the overarching goal of fostering sustained and meaningful transformational change.
Format:
The session will be held remotely in the afternoon GMT to facilitate global participation. Lasting no more than 1 hour and 15 minutes, it will commence with a short, close-captioned presentation followed by breakout group activities facilitated using Miro boards. Participants unable to access the platform due to connectivity or disability issues will have alternative avenues to contribute. Any special requirements should be communicated to glocal@itad.com beforehand.
Outputs:
Itad will publish and promote a summary of insights gleaned from the session on its website and social media platforms. This summary aims to contribute to ongoing discussions and serve as a resource for organisations conducting similar evaluation and learning exercises in the field of community engagement.
