Rethinking Evaluation Competencies for the Transformational Imperative

About the Event

This interactive session explores how evaluation competencies must evolve to respond to the transformational imperative in an era of polycrisis. Drawing on a new framework of 11 competencies and the 3Cs (competencies, capacities, capabilities), the session will combine a short framing presentation with participatory breakout discussions. Participants will reflect on the relevance of the competencies and how to operationalise them across diverse contexts to enable evaluation to contribute to just, inclusive, and systemic transformation.

Rajib Nandi Rajib Nandi, Chairperson of the Community of Evaluators South Asia, is a researcher and evaluator with 27 years of experience. He specialises in gender-transformative evaluations, capacity-building frameworks and the evaluation of development programs, with an emphasis on equity and social impact.
Candice Morkel Candice Morkel is the Academic Head of Program: IPDET at the Lifelong Learning Centre at the University of Bern, Switzerland. She has more than 25 years’ experience in public sector governance, policy and evaluation. She works at the intersection of evidence and policy, with a focus on building capacities and capabilities at the individual, institutional and systems levels.
Silva Ferretti Silva Ferretti is an independent consultant working across humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding fields. With a long, international career, she promotes reflective, creative, and empowering evaluation practices grounded in learning and inclusion.
Sonal Zaveri Sonal Zaveri, a Board member of IEAC, has over 30 years of experience in strategic planning, program design, capacity building, mentoring, and evaluation. Her career concentrates on impactful initiatives, especially for children, adolescents, and girls. She is the founder of GENSA - Gender and Equity Network South Asia.
Thania de la Garza Thania de la Garza is a recognized evaluation specialist and evidence use strategist, serving as co-founder of Globall Evidence for Results. She has held senior roles such as Deputy Director General of Evaluation at Mexico’s National Council for Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL), where she advanced evidence-based policymaking. Her work focuses on strengthening evaluation systems, improving data utilization in public policy, and fostering accountability in social programs.
