About the Event
Over the years, there has been an increased focus on implementing social and emotional learning (SEL) programs and practices inside classrooms, that promote student well-being and foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students can thrive. Evaluators are looking for holistic ways that can help them improve intervention designs, and support in embedding SEL into educational spaces; which require them to move beyond the conventional approach.
This workshop aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the Classroom Observation Tool for Measuring Social and Emotional Learning- a non-participatory observation tool that is simple to use, robust, and coherent. This uses a qualitative note sheet and a quantitative rating scale that encompasses the classroom environment's physical, social, emotional, and learning aspects and how they influence teacher involvement in creating a safe space for learning, student conduct, and overall classroom climate. It incorporates perspectives from both teachers and students which can provide valuable insights into teaching effectiveness and student engagement. The findings can be used to inform policies for improving teacher development programs, student learning experiences, and classroom practices.
