Unbundling Evaluation: How AI is Reshaping Monitoring & Learning at Scale

Sobre el evento

Traditional monitoring and evaluation has long been constrained by its own design — extractive, periodic, and narrow in scope. This session reimagines what evaluation can be, and who it can serve. As AI unlocks new possibilities for listening at scale, we explore how conversational, voice-based, and continuous sensing tools are shifting M&E away from snapshot data collection toward something far more dynamic: an ongoing dialogue with the communities and systems we seek to understand. Rather than asking pre-defined questions and extracting predetermined answers, AI-powered approaches can surface open perspectives, capture unintended outcomes, and track the kind of complex, networked change that traditional frameworks routinely miss — including agency, exponential shifts, and interactions within systems. Equally important is AI's potential to democratise evaluation itself — not just data collection, but analysis, interpretation, and decision-making — placing these capabilities in the hands of those closest to the work. By unbundling evaluation from its conventional constraints, we open space to ask better questions: What is actually changing? For whom? And how do we know?
